Online Poker in Connecticut

Currently, online idn poker is not legal in Connecticut. The state has just over three million people and is not big enough to support an online poker room.

The Connecticut legislature has been working on an online gaming bill. The bill is not clear on whether shared liquidity arrangements are possible. However, lawmakers are open to the idea. If it is possible, it would make Connecticut a more interesting market for online poker.

Online poker is already legal in some Caribbean nations. In addition, online poker is legal in many US states, including Delaware. However, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) and the 1961 Wire Act are the two major laws that have been imposed on online poker sites. These laws have created a gray area around online poker.

If the state of Connecticut is willing to enter shared liquidity agreements with other states, it could make online poker a reality in the near future. This could mean launching two or more sites. However, Connecticut is a small market and it’s likely that no online poker site would ever be profitable.

There is a possibility that the new administration will change the rules regarding online gambling. President-elect Biden said that he would “reverse” the White House’s opinion and allow states to expand online gambling. However, that doesn’t mean that the state of Connecticut will actually start online poker anytime soon.

Connecticut is awaiting a final ruling on the Wire Act. This ruling will probably be in favor of the state, and it is possible that online poker could be regulated in the state before shared liquidity agreements are in place.
